Canelo Alvarez retained his undisputed super middleweight championship with a 12-round decision win over Jaime Munguia tonight in Las Vegas. Munguia (43-0. 34 KOs, 27) has won eight of his past 10 fights by stoppage. including a ninth-round TKO over Ryder in January. This is the first time two Mexican fighters have faced off for an undisputed championship.
Munguia came out firing jabs, but Canelo was able to weather the storm and return fire with his own. Munguia never went down, but he was clearly outclassed by the more experienced Canelo. The judges' scores were 117-110, 116-111, and 115-112, all in favor of Canelo.
